Movies with Mary and Happy Endings for The Great Depresssion

Mary and I went to see the new American Girl movie. The ticket cost was $17.75. After waiting on line at the popcorn counter behind a posse of nine who could not decide whether or not it was Goobers or Raisinetts that had a raisin center, or how many wanted cherry slushies and how many wanted the blue ones, (what correlation is there by the way between raspberry and blueness?) we grabbed our loot--1 large bag of popcorn with butter (not the bucket though) and a bottle of water (I had forgotten to put one in my bag) all for the price of $10.81--and hurried down to the narrow, hallway like viewing room. We settled into the comfy seats. The view was good and the screen big enough to satisfy. Even after the rough start, I was happy. Happy to be with Mary. Happy that we would enjoy the story together.

The film was about Kit Kittredge who lived during the time of the Great Depression. I won't spoil any fun when I say that it had a happy ending. Of course it did! Everyone who will decide to see it already knows that. And I'm glad that Mary will have a slightly better understanding of the hardship and prejudice of depression times. Still, I wonder if someday she will see the irony of the resulting American Girl profit and the frivolity of spending $28.56 on the experience.

But none of this spoils the love I have of my time with Mary.

I left the theater teary-eyed.

Irony is what makes a good plot! I am sure it was the perfect spoonful of depression for little girls like Mary and Maggie and Rose. We will save The Grapes Of Wrath for another few years down the road! Glad you had a good girl date. I treasure those moments. The popcorn with butter was definitely a seize the day kind of treat!
